In my last article I discussed the way in which a new captain might formulate a crew development plan upon taking up a new command. I outlined how information about both the goals and aspirations of the owner and detailed research about individual crew members form the genesis of a crew development plan.
The discussion was intended to give the new captain a range of crew development ideas upon taking up the command. The ideas presented a framework or a platform for action that the new captain could utilize when commencing the initial discussions with the yacht crew.
It is my strong belief that the new captain should spend some time and prepare her/himself in a systematic way to achieve ongoing success in developing the crew as a cohesive team.
